Driver Seat Stage Plot

Driver Seat is an experimental audience participation project in which a few improvising musicians are each conducted by an audience member. First performed at Baere Brewing Company in Denver for the 2016 Underground Music Showcase, participants use simple hand gestures, including signals for volume, tempo, and pitch, to conduct. Seated directly in front of the musician, an audience member vacates their role if tapped on the shoulder by another person. Driver Seat explores the possibilities of crowd participation while blurring lines between performance and audience.
